Comets Nearly Complete Big Comeback Against Watonga

Despite an incredible late surge, a Comets rally fell short as Watonga narrowly defeated the Hinton Comets Boys Basketball Team 65-58 last night in Hinton. Watonga, Brent Schroeder's 22 points propelled Watonga over Hinton, as the Comets dropped to 3-10 on the season. Watonga improved to 8-4. The Eagles sealed their victory in the fourth quarter on a free throw from junior forward Jon Geels.

After the Eagles jumped out to a 35-20 lead at the half, it looked as though the Comets might not have enough firepower to climb back in Tuesday night’s home contest. And after sophomore Devin Vecellio hit a three pointer to open the third quarter and the Eagles immediately countered with a 5-0 run to increase their lead to 40-23, things looked bleaker. However, the Comets turned to the tables on Watonga and caught fire at an NBA Jam type level.
